Leonardo da Vinci’s Resume

Leonardo da Vinci

In a recent e-mail message to members, Marc Cenedella, Founder & CEO of TheLadders.com shared an image of Leonardo da Vinci’s authentic resume from 1482, along with a translation from the old Italian. The document shows how da Vinci sold his expertise to the Duke of Milan in a time of war. Da Vinci was adept at making explosives, catapults and the like, and listed all the ways he could assist the duke in bellicose pursuits. It is inspiring to see how the ultimate Renaissance man marketed himself to a potential employer, and reaffirms how important it is to present your talents in their best light via a well-constructed resume. The take-away from Cenedella’s post is that it is not so much what you have done in the past, but what you can do for an employer that will ultimately win him over.
